Dr. Lynn R. Schechter, PhD, MP

Licensed Medical Psychologist

Dr. Schechter is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a Medical Psychologist, and can provide psychotherapy and medication management.  She was formerly licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Psychology Examiners until she became a Medical Psychologist. She was also previously  licensed as a psychologist in New York state before moving to Louisiana.

She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, with a concentration in human development and family studies. 

She received her masters degrees (a Masters of Arts (MA) in developmental psychology, and a Masters of Education (EdM) in school and clinical psychology) from Teachers College, Columbia University (ranked the #1 graduate school in psychology and education in the United States at that time), and her  terminal degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in psychology from Columbia University in New York state. 

She completed her post-doctoral masters degree in clinical psychopharmacology (MSCP) at The California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.

Dr. Schechter was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and  the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society while at Cornell University. 

She is a National Health Provider of Health Service Psychologists. She is a member of the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychologists.

Dr. Schechter is also a published author of books: " My Big Fat Secret: How Jenna Takes Control of Her Emotions and Eating" (2009, American Psychological Association/Magination Press; winner of Moonbeam Children's Book award), and "Just a Normal Family:  A Story for Children and Families Dealing with Addiction" (2016, WingSpan Press)

Medication Management

I am a Medical Psychologist, and am licensed to prescribe medications that can be used to treat  mental and behavioral health conditions. I treat patients with different types of problems, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD. Collaboration with your primary care and attending physicians is part of what I do.


I've been a licensed psychologist for nearly 20 years. If you’re looking for psychotherapy with a highly trained and deeply compassionate psychologist, then you’ve come to the right place. I guide my patients every step of the way and implement various methods to help them develop new attitudes towards all of life’s most

complex matters.

Fees for services:


Initial Consultation and evaluation for psychiatric medications (75 minutes) :  $225

Medication Management (25 minutes; only after initial psychiatric evaluation completed): $125

Initial Consultation for psychotherapy only (without medication): $180

Individual psychotherapy (50 minutes): $170

A sliding scale may be utilized by Dr. Schechter.

Letters or FMLA paperwork: $65

Court related expenses (depositions/court appearances, etc.): prices given upon request

Dr. Schechter accepts cash, Visa, AmEx, Discover, MasterCard. No checks accepted.

Certain insurances are accepted. 

Availability of Dr. Schechter may be limited. Her practice is part-time (2 DAYS PER WEEK; AS OF 9/1/20, SHE CANNOT ACCEPT NEW THERAPY PATIENTS, BUT SHE CAN ACCEPT NEW MEDICATION MANAGEMENT PATIENTS)
