Dr. Lynn R. Schechter, MA, EdM, PhD, MP
Medical Psychologist, Advanced Practice
Dr. Schechter is currently licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a Medical Psychologist of Advanced Practice, and can provide psychotherapy and medication management. She was formerly licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Psychology Examiners until she became a Medical Psychologist. Dr. Schechter was also previously licensed and worked as a doctoral level psychologist in New York state. She is a native New Yorker who has lived in Louisiana for 20 years.
She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the Ivy League school Cornell University, which is located in Ithaca, New York. Her concentration was psychology, human development, and family studies.
She received her masters degrees (a Masters of Arts (MA) in developmental psychology, and a Masters of Education (EdM) (in school and clinical psychology) from Teachers College, Columbia University. She received her Masters of Philosophy degree (MPhil) and her terminal degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in psychology from Columbia University, the Ivy League university in New York City.
She completed her post-doctoral masters degree in clinical psychopharmacology (MSCP) at The California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.
Dr. Schechter was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society while at Cornell University. In 2006, Dr. Schechter was inducted into the Who's Who of American Women for her expertise in her field and her contributions towards the betterment of society.
She is a National Health Provider of Health Service Psychologists. She is a member of the Louisiana Academy of Medical Psychologists.

Dr. Schechter is an award winning published author. Her book, " My Big Fat Secret: How Jenna Takes Control of Her Emotions and Eating" was published by the American Psychological Association/Magination Press in 2009. It won a Moonbeam Children's Book Silver award and can be found in school libraries around the country. It was also translated into Chinese. The book is about a teenage girl who has an eating disorder and learns to overcome it.
Dr. Schechter's second book, "Just a Normal Family: A Story for Children and Families Dealing with Addiction" was published by WingSpan Press in 2016. The book is about a girl who grows up with a parent with alcoholism. There is a section in the book that provides education and information to support children and parents who deal with addiction.
Dr. Schechter is an artist. She won an award from the Louisiana Art Guild.
Dr. Schechter provided crisis and support services after the September 11th attacks in New York City. She witnessed the attacks from her office building in the Bronx, New York when she was a psychologist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Jacobi Medical Center. She provided services to colleagues who lost loved ones in the attacks and she also performed crisis interventions near Ground Zero to survivors.
Dr. Schechter provided crisis intervention services in Louisiana in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. She also provided similar voluntary services to the community after Hurricane Gustav in 2008, and after the Great Flood of 2016.

I am an Advanced Practice Medical Psychologist and am licensed to prescribe psychiatric medications that can be used to treat mental and behavioral health conditions. I treat patients with different types of problems, for example: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and PTSD. Collaboration with your primary care and attending physicians is an important part of what I do to promote the safety and efficacy of the medication that is prescribed. Attention to side effects is also very important.
